The University of Western Australia has an international reputation for academic excellence and achievement.
The Doctor of Education degree is recognised internationally and is designed to service the needs of professionals who wish to undertake doctoral level study. Graduates from the Faculty of Education occupy leading positions as principals in schools, educational administrators, and as leading researchers and academics in universities all over the world.
The Doctor of Education (EdD) provides an advanced course of study at the doctoral level. The EdD is focused on the application of advanced knowledge to questions of professional practice. Participants are encouraged to take up research questions that are connected to their current or projected career interests. Research studies conducted for the Doctor of Education can make a contribution to policy, management and professional practice in education.
The program has two components, coursework and thesis.
The coursework consists of four units. These units offer a comprehensive overview of major research methodologies and lead to preparation of a draft research proposal for the thesis. On completion of these units students will receive extensive and thorough supervision of their thesis work.
Coursework units are:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field with first or upper second class honours, or a master's degree in a relevant field with at least an average of 70 per cent and demonstrated research preparation, and at least two years' full-time professional educational experience.
