This is articulated to master's degrees to provide an opportunity for you to obtain a postgraduate diploma with one semester of full-time study or the part-time equivalent and then use this as full credit towards a master's degree by coursework.

Course outline

The diploma aims to provide an award equivalent to half a Master of Education degree by coursework.

It is particularly suited to practising and aspiring teachers, leaders and researchers in all sectors of education. You are encouraged to follow your own particular research interests within the broad field of education and curriculum development.

Successful students will be able to proceed to completion of a master's degree by coursework. If you wish to apply to articulate the diploma with the Master of Education or to seek partial credit towards another of the Faculty's master's degrees, you should note course and unit requirements for those degrees and select units accordingly.

A variety of assessment methods is used. The most common pattern includes seminar presentation and/or assignment(s) to a total of 5000-6000 words per unit.

The aims of this course are:

  • To expose students to theory and to national and international educational and management practices, so they can link diverse theories and practices with their own experiences, broaden their knowledge and improve their knowledge and practices.
  • To provide the opportunity to develop specialised research skills as a base for further professional research.
  • To provide the opportunity to pursue further study at master's level using the work completed in the Graduate Diploma as full credit towards a master's degree by coursework.

The course consists of units to a total value of 24 points comprising:

Either

A.
I   The following core unit (6 points)

and

II   Three units selected from the Master of Education Options units below (each unit has a value of 6 points)

or

B. Four units selected from the Master of Education Options A. II above.

Note: Students who wish to apply for entry to a relevant master's course of the Faculty by way of thesis and coursework must take EDUC8631 Approaches to Research and achieve a minimum mark of 65% for the unit and an average of at least 65% for the coursework units.
