Performance Indicators in Primary Schools (PIPS)

The PIPS On-Entry Baseline Assessment is administered by the University of Western Australia and offered to schools and systems in Australia. This assessment of literacy and numeracy can assist with assessing progress of students entering primary school.

PIPS was developed by the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) at the University of Durham in England and is run in Australia by PIPS Australia at UWA.

The PIPS On-Entry Baseline Assessment is a CD-ROM based program designed to assess students entering primary school and can assist with:

  • assessing the progress of students in literacy, numeracy and phonological awareness
  • diagnosing individual student work and providing data to indicate areas where students are achieving or underachieving
  • predicting future performance for identifying individuals who might benefit from early intervention
