The Laboratory undertakes research and development for application to the broad area of measurement and assessment in education and the social sciences including psychology, health and marketing.
Projects and applied research are carried out in the assessment of proficiency and performance, attitudes and opinions, preference and choice.
Our workadds to the knowledge and infrastructure of educational and social measurement through basic research in developing measurement models and by developing software for data analysis according to these models.
The Laboratory specialises in the study and application of the Rasch class of psychometric models, including its implications for the philosophy of measurement. It teaches academic and professional development courses on campus and online.
We complement and cooperate with the University of Oxford Centre for Educational Assessment, also established with support from Pearson Research and Assessment.
