UWA research

Education research at UWA is characterised by theoretical depth, disciplinary and interdisciplinary study, and substantive contributions in relation to theory, policy and practice.

Our research strengths

Our researchers regularly publish in ISI listed journals, as well as practitioner-based journals. There is a commitment both to high-quality theoretical research and communicating education research with teachers and school leaders.

The research strengths within the Graduate School of Education are closely integrated into the emerging priorities of The University of Western Australia’s research strategy, and include:

Social foundations of education
Examines issues that reach beyond the given roles and goals of educational specialists and practitioners and delve into the complex interrelationships between school and society, education and culture.
Educational measurement
Refers to the analysis of data obtained from educational assessments to infer the abilities and proficiencies of students. The approaches overlap with those in psychometrics, which at UWA includes the use and study of Rasch measurement theory.
Leadership in education
A strong and growing research area, leadership in education is the process of enlisting and guiding the talents and energies of teachers, pupils, and parents toward achieving common educational aims.
