Forum round-up

The Early Years Forum, held on 23 October 2009 went extremely well.

The Vice Chancellor welcomed the 180 participants and announced that UWA would be offering 25 places in a new Masters of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) in 2011.

The Education Minister, Hon Dr Elizabeth Constable MLA, opened the Forum and Professor Collette Taylor, Chair of Early Childhood Education and Care, Early Learning, Development and Inclusion from the University of Melbourne gave a very powerful, and moving, keynote address.

The 35 presenters engaged their groups is lively discussions in the four sets of ‘round tables’ throughout the day, and the policy panel speakers (David Ansell, Terry Werner, Ron Dullard and Valerie Gould) provided historical and policy oriented context for the discussions.

The ‘long table’ at the end of the day with all the presenters on the stage worked surprisingly well, with lively passionate debate with the audience. All this was masterfully and seamlessly held together by the MC, Richard Pengelly.
