Rasch theory

The Advanced Course in Rasch Measurement Theory and the application of RUMM2030 will be held from Wednesday 10 January 2018 to Tuesday 16 January 2018.

Course outline

Topics covered:

  • theory of social measurement and Rasch models;
  • revision of Rasch?s model for dichotomous responses and his original work;
  • multiple choice items and guessing;
  • understanding the Polytomous Rasch Model;
  • model fit statistics;
  • advanced understanding of differential item functioning (DIF): real and artificial DIF;
  • vertical equating and DIF;
  • assessing two violations of the assumption of local independence: multidimensionality and response dependence;
  • facets analysis and analysis of longitudinal data; and
  • reporting a Rasch analysis.

Students enrolled obtain:

  1. the study guide
  2. a set of lecture materials
  3. selected readings and
  4. a copy of the new RUMM2030 software for the duration of the course which expires on the 30th June 2018.
